How Botox can be used in turning back the hands of time!

BOTOX Dr. Thomas Romo III of New York, NY understands how difficult it can be to notice the gradual changes that occur as we age. Aging often starts in the face, where skin laxity increases and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles can impact one’s appearance. Many adult men and women who want a more youthful look may believe plastic surgeries such as facelifts are their only options. Instead, patients can ask their plastic surgeon about non-surgical solutions such as Botox injections.

Understanding Botox

Many of us have heard of Botox before. We know it’s used to address aging skin. But how?

Dr. Thomas Romo III describes Botox as a neuromodulator. This particular medication is not injected into the fine lines and wrinkles as a dermal filler is. Instead, Botox is used for the muscles of the face. Muscles that contract and result in movement in the face can cause dynamic wrinkles and folds to form. These often includes forehead folds, glabellar lines (the “elevens” between the eyebrows), and crow’s feet. With Botox injections strategically administered into these areas, many patients can smooth wrinkles and folds and improve their overall appearance for several months at a time.

What can I expect from Botox injections?

Unlike dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm or Radiesse, Botox injections do take several days to show marked improvement. Botox works on the muscles, and once these muscles are relaxed, they will keep wrinkles and folds from being as noticeable as they were before. Patients will come into the office for their consultation. Once patients have decided that Botox is appropriate for their needs, they will have a series of injections performed by Dr. Thomas Romo III. There is mild discomfort during these injections. Once completed, patients will see the results develop over the course of a week. Results last approximately six months before reinjection is needed to maintain the improvements and slow the signs of aging over several years.
