Chin Implant Surgery in NYC

What is chin implant (enhancement) surgery?

Also called genioplasty, chin enhancement surgery improves contours of the chin, jawline, and neck. Genioplasty provides a permanent solution to improve a weak or recessed chin, help reduce the appearance of a “double” chin, as well as improve a rounded face and neck.

In most cases, the surgery involves placement of an implant around the patient’s existing chin bone, which augments the size and shape of the chin to achieve a natural balance in facial features. It can also balance the appearance of a large nose or fleshy neck. Chin implants may be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial procedures such as a rhinoplasty, facelift, etc.

What is a chin implant?

Chin implants are small devices typically made from FDA-approved synthetic materials, which is molded to fit around a patient’s chin bone. Chin implants can vary in size depending on the desired enhancement.

Am I a good candidate for a chin implant?

A well-defined jawline is the foundation of a balanced, proportionate and attractive face. If you feel you have recessed or weak looking chin or feel your facial features are not proportionate, chin implant surgery may be a good fit for you. Patients looking to get a chin implant should be in good health and have realistic expectations about the results.

What can I expect during an initial consultation?

During your initial consultation with Dr. Romo at Romo Plastic Surgery, Dr. Romo will conduct a thorough examination of your facial skin, skeletal structure, and soft tissue. He will then discuss your desired expectation for the surgery by utilizing digital imaging to show you the results you can expect.

How is chin implant surgery performed?

Prior to the procedure, Dr. Romo will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for the surgery, as well as any medications you may need to have in advance.

During the procedure, you will be given local or general anesthesia, dependent on your preferences. The chin implant is then placed through a small incision underneath the chin, causing just minimal scarring. This approach also prevents any possible movement of the implant in the future. The chin implant is placed directly against the jawbone with your skin and tissue covering, so when touched, it will feel completely natural. Following surgery, the incision is closed with sutures, and the chin may be bandaged.

How long does chin implant surgery take?

Chin implant surgery typically takes less than one hour. Expect to have minimal pain and discomfort, which is easily managed with medication and/or cold compresses.

Patients experience little downtime and can usually go back to work and other daily activities within three to four days after surgery. Strenuous activity can be resumed within two weeks.

When can I expect to see results?

Results of a chin augmentation can be seen within two weeks after surgery when the residual swelling has subsided. If you are interested in learning more about chin implants and other procedures Dr. Romo offers, call our office today at 212-288-1500.
